Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents a richly detailed Baroque-inspired composition filling the entire field with characteristic elements of the style. A large, sweeping volute scroll dominates the upper left, rendered with fine engraved detail to convey movement and drama. In the upper right, a cherub — a classical putto figure — emerges from stylized cloud forms, its face and wings sculpted in high relief. A scallop shell motif occupies the lower portion of the field, its ridged surface finely detailed. The denomination €5 appears in the upper right field, while the inscription O BARROCO is incused in bold lettering across a polished horizontal band in the lower center.

Aanvullende informatie

Portugal's "Ages of Portuguese History" collector series, of which this is a part, was conceived as a pedagogical project rather than a purely commemorative one — each release anchored to a cultural or historical period rather than a single event or figure. The Baroque arrived in Portugal largely through Jesuit influence and the wealth flowing from Brazil, producing an architectural and artistic explosion in the early 18th century that outlasted the style's decline elsewhere in Europe.

The KM#890a designation distinguishes this silver striking from the base-metal circulation version issued the same year.
