Spirou and Fantasio were created by Rob-Vel (Robert Velter) in 1938, first appearing in the Belgian comics weekly Le Journal de Spirou. The series passed through multiple artists — Jijé, Franquin, and others — making it one of the most collaborative franchises in Franco-Belgian comics history.
