Obverse description The elaborate coat of arms of the city of Melilla occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield supported by two Pillars of Hercules with the motto NON PLUS ULTRA on scrolling banners, surmounted by a royal crown with a warrior figure finial, and flanked by two sea-dragons at the base. The legend ESPAÑA appears vertically on the left and MELILLA on the right, with the partial motto PRAEFERE PATRIAM LIBERIS PARENTEM DECET inscribed on the surrounding banners. The date 2010 is positioned in the lower field, and the Madrid mint mark (M with crown) appears just above it to the right of the shield. A beaded border frames the entire design.
