The subject is depicted with dishevelled hair and a loosely draped collar, conveying a Romantic-era artistic sensibility. The circular legend 'REPUBBLICA ITALIANA' runs along the inner border, reading from lower left to lower right in raised Latin characters. The field is otherwise uncluttered, allowing the sculptural portrait to dominate the composition. The design is the work of engraver Claudia Momoni. |
