Additional information

Italy's "Sapori e Piaceri d'Italia" collector series, of which this piece is part, was launched to celebrate regional culinary traditions — an unusual mandate for a national mint more accustomed to commemorating battles and statesmen. Frascati, the white wine from the Castelli Romani hills southeast of Rome, and Amatriciana, the tomato-and-guanciale pasta sauce originating in Amatrice, are paired here as emblems of Lazio's food culture.

Amatrice itself was largely destroyed in the August 2016 earthquake, which killed nearly 300 people and reduced much of the historic town to rubble.
