Obverse description The obverse features a profile view of the original 1957 Fiat 500 automobile rendered in fine relief, juxtaposed with the redesigned 2007 model, highlighting the shared stylistic language between the two generations. The composition emphasizes the iconic silhouette of the classic city car, capturing its rounded bodywork and distinctive proportions in an artistic, almost sculptural manner. The legend REPUBBLICA ITALIANA is inscribed along the upper periphery in Latin characters.

Additional information

The Fiat 500 coin was issued to mark the 60th anniversary of the original 500's launch in July 1957 — a car Dante Giacosa designed under strict cost and size constraints imposed by a postwar Italy that needed cheap, reliable urban transport above all else. The original 500 debuted at 465,000 lire, roughly equivalent to two months' average wages.

Italy's commemorative €5 silver issues of this period are legal tender but never circulated.
