Obverse description Portrait effigy of Count Camillo Benso di Cavour after the celebrated painting by Francesco Hayez, rendered in right-facing profile and occupying the central field. Flanking the portrait on both sides is a celebrated quotation by Cavour affirming the absolute necessity of an independent Court of Auditors, arranged in vertical columns of text. The legend REPUBBLICA ITALIANA appears along the periphery, and the Rome Mint mark R is positioned at lower left, beneath the inscription.

Reverse description Central field features the denomination 5 EURO, above which is depicted the tocco, the distinctive ceremonial hat traditionally worn by the President of the Court of Auditors. Below the denomination, two ceremonial maces of justice from the historic Court of Auditors of the Kingdom of Sardinia are shown crossed, with the founding and centenary anniversary dates 1862 and 2012 positioned to either side of their staffs. The legend CORTE DEI CONTI arcs along the upper periphery.
