San Marino has issued commemorative silver pieces honoring motorsport figures with some regularity, but this 2014 Senna issue carries specific weight: it was released twenty years after his death at Imola on 1 May 1994 — a circuit located roughly 90 kilometers from San Marino's own borders. The geographic proximity gave the republic an unusually direct claim to the commemoration.
