| Reverse description | The reverse presents the figure of Aquarius, depicted as a robed water-bearer pouring water from an urn, rendered in flowing, stylized relief against a starred field. The zodiac wheel border encircles the design, its twelve segments each engraved with the Aquarius symbol repeated in pattern. The denomination 5 EURO appears in the lower field, with the date 2021 inscribed at the top and the Rome Mint mark R positioned to the right. The word AQVARIVS is inscribed along the left arc of the inner border in Latin characters. |

San Marino's ongoing zodiac series has produced reliably collectible issues since its inception, largely because the republic's tiny domestic circulation means most examples are diverted to collectors before they see any handling. The Aquarius release followed this pattern without exception.
Bronzital — a copper-aluminum-zinc-tin alloy developed specifically for euro-denomination circulation coinage — was adopted across several eurozone and associated states to resist the corrosion problems that plagued earlier bronze compositions in humid storage conditions.
