| Obverse description | The central field features the Coat of Arms of Liberia, depicting a sailing ship approaching shore beneath a palm tree and a rising sun, with a dove in flight above and a plow and shovel in the lower portion of the shield. A ribbon banner above the shield bears the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE, and a second ribbon below carries the legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA. The date 1997 is divided by the shield to left and right, and the denomination 5 DOLLARS appears in the exergue. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA runs along the upper rim, with a beaded border encircling the entire design. |

Liberia's commemorative coinage of the 1990s was largely produced for the international collector market rather than domestic circulation, with many issues contracted through foreign minting operations and sold via direct mail and home shopping channels. Diana's death in August 1997 triggered an immediate flood of such pieces from small-nation issuers, Liberia among the most prolific.
The "Young Teacher" designation refers to Diana's brief work at the Young England Kindergarten in Pimlico before her engagement — a period she later described as among the happiest of her life.
