| Obverse description | The Arms of the Republic of Liberia occupy the central field, depicting a three-masted sailing vessel at sea with a palm tree and rising sun on the shore, flanked by olive branches, with a dove in flight above and a plough in the exergue of the shield. The date 1997 is divided on either side of the arms. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs around the upper periphery, with the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE inscribed on a ribbon within the arms. The denomination 5 DOLLARS appears in the lower field beneath the shield. |
