Liberia's central bank issued a long run of commemorative crown-sized pieces through the 1990s aimed squarely at the collector market rather than circulation, licensing royal and celebrity subjects with little connection to the country. This Diana engagement piece appeared in 1997, the year of her death, which dramatically spiked demand for the entire category and left dealers briefly unable to keep similar issues in stock.
