| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Liberia occupies the central field, depicting a sailing ship at sea, a palm tree, a rising sun, and a plough with the motto scroll inscribed THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE across the shield. The date 1997 flanks the arms on either side, with the subsidiary legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA repeated both along the upper arc of the outer legend and on a scroll beneath the shield. The denomination 5 DOLLARS appears in the lower exergue. The entire design is encircled by a beaded inner border and a reeded rim. |
