Additional information

Liberia's wildlife-themed collector series of the 1990s was produced almost entirely for the overseas novelty market, with little meaningful circulation on Liberian soil. The country was in the grip of the First Liberian Civil War through much of this decade, and Charles Taylor's NPFL and government forces had effectively displaced normal economic activity — including the practical use of coinage.

KM#441 was struck by foreign contract minters targeting European and American collector blister-pack sales.
