Obverse description Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, rendered in high relief with an antique finish, after the fourth portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley. The Queen wears the George IV State Diadem and a pearl drop earring. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs along the left rim and 'SOLOMON ISLANDS' along the upper rim, with '5 DOLLARS' descending the right rim. Below the portrait, the engraver's initials 'IRB', the weight specification '2 oz', the fineness 'Ag 999', and the date '2017' appear in the lower field.

Reverse description Dynamic high-relief depiction of a Thraex gladiator in full combat armour, lunging forward in an aggressive stance with a curved sica sword raised and a small rectangular parmula shield held at his side. The gladiator wears a crested Thracian helmet with a visor, greaves, and segmented arm guard. A crouching wild beast — apparently a big cat — is portrayed at the lower left of the scene, set against an arena backdrop with stone architecture. The composition is framed by an ornate Greek meander border encircling the entire design field, with the legend 'GLADIATORS' arcing across the upper border and 'THRAEX' inscribed along the lower border within the meander frame.
