The secutor was developed specifically to counter the retiarius — a net-and-trident fighter whose long-range tactics exploited the weaknesses of heavier gladiatorial types. The secutor's smooth, close-faced helmet with minimal eye openings was designed to prevent the net from catching, at the cost of severely restricted vision and ventilation. Bouts rarely lasted long for a different reason: the secutor could overheat and suffocate within minutes.
Solomon Islands has issued an extensive run of antiquity-themed bullion and collector rounds under the "Gladiator" series. KM#618 is part of that program.
