Obverse description The obverse presents two facing effigies set within overlapping oval frames against a mirror-polished field, both rendered in selective blue rhodium plating. To the left, the young diademed and draped bust of Queen Victoria faces right, based on Leonard Charles Wyon's classic portrait. To the right, Susanna Blunt's mature effigy of Queen Elizabeth II faces left, wearing a diadem and robes. Between the two portraits, at upper centre, appears the royal cypher of Queen Victoria surmounted by a crown, and at lower centre the royal cypher 'ER' of Queen Elizabeth II beneath a crown, with the denomination '5 DOLLARS' inscribed below. The surrounding legend reads 'ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA' at top and 'VICTORIA D·G·REGINA' at bottom, with a beaded border encircling the entire design.
