Obverse description The coin is struck in the form of an ornate antique key, with the obverse featuring a circular inset portrait area at the upper portion of the heart-shaped bow. Within this inset, the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as engraved by Ian Rank-Broadley, is depicted wearing a tiara, with the legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcing to the left and 'COOK ISLANDS' arcing to the right. The denomination '5 DOLLARS' appears at the top of the inset field, and the date '2022' is inscribed below the portrait with the engraver's initials 'IRB' beneath the bust. The heart-shaped bow surrounding the portrait inset is richly decorated with deeply engraved scrolling acanthus-style foliate arabesques in antiqued finish, and a suspension ring pierces the top of the bow.

Reverse description The reverse displays the full key-shaped form of the coin in antiqued silver, with the heart-shaped bow bearing an elaborate engraved floral and foliate design centred on a stylised six-petalled flower medallion from which symmetrical scrolling vines and leaf sprays radiate across the entire bow surface. The elongated cylindrical shank extends downward from the bow, itself decorated with a smaller scrolling foliate motif at mid-shaft. The bit at the lower end is rendered in a stepped, castellated form consistent with a traditional skeleton key design. A circular suspension ring at the apex of the bow completes the ornamental key motif.
