Part of a broad series issued across multiple Pacific microstates commemorating the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, this piece was struck under contract by a European private mint — the Central Bank of Solomon Islands having no minting infrastructure of its own. These small-denomination gold issues were never intended for circulation and were sold directly into the collector market, primarily in Europe and Asia.
The Hanging Gardens remain the only Wonder of the Ancient World for which no confirmed archaeological evidence has ever been found, with some historians arguing the site may have been in Nineveh rather than Babylon.
