Obverse description The obverse features a left-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the design by Ian Rank-Broadley, occupying the lower left quadrant of the field. Behind the portrait, an ancient Roman-era horse-drawn covered wagon (carrus) is depicted in relief, evoking the historical trade caravans of the Amber Route. A stylised map of Europe forms the background in the upper field. The legend SZLAK BURSZTYNOWY (Polish for 'Amber Route') arcs along the upper border, while NIUE ISLAND appears along the lower border. The inscriptions ELIZABETH II, 2011, 5 DOLLARS, and Au 999,9 are incused beneath the central design.
