The Aba Panu meteorite fell near the village of Aba Panu in Oyo State, Nigeria, in March 2018 — witnessed fall, which means its provenance and classification as an L5 chondrite were established almost immediately after recovery. Witnessed falls are considerably rarer than finds, and the scientific documentation surrounding Aba Panu made it a frequent subject for collector coins within a few years of its fall.
Cook Islands has issued meteorite-embedded coinage under various licensing arrangements since the early 2010s, typically incorporating a fragment directly into the coin's structure. Whether this example contains an embedded fragment or simply commemorates the meteorite should be confirmed against physical inspection.
