Obverse description The coin is struck in the form of a three-dimensional freshwater mussel shell (Cyrtonaias tampicoensis), replicating the sculpted ribbed exterior of the bivalve in fine detail. At centre, the shield-shaped coat of arms of the Republic of Palau is rendered in relief, depicting a traditional figure alongside a mermaid, a trident, a crescent moon, a star, and a treasure chest upon a field of waves, all enclosed within a beaded border. The curved legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU arcs along the upper periphery of the shell, while the inscription RAINBOW'S END follows the contour above the arms. The denomination 5$ appears in the lower field beneath the arms.
