| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, rendered in fine detail with elaborately styled hair. The portrait is the fourth definitive effigy by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear below the truncation. The circumferential legend reads ELIZABETH II to the upper left and COOK ISLANDS to the upper right, while the denomination 5 DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower rim. The antiqued finish imparts a darkened patina to the recessed areas, enhancing the sculptural relief of the portrait. |

The "Secret Heart" series exploits a niche in the devotional collectibles market that has grown steadily since the Vatican's formal recognition of the Sacred Heart feast as a universal obligation in 1856. Cook Islands has no particular connection to that tradition — its fiscal arrangements with New Zealand make it a sovereign issuer on paper while the New Zealand dollar circulates in practice, a structure that has made it one of the most prolific novelty coin licensing jurisdictions in the Pacific. Charles III's accession in September 2022 gave every such issuer an immediate commercial reason to produce new royal portrait coins before the market saturated.
