| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse faithfully reproduces the celebrated Ghisi Shield, a masterwork of Renaissance goldsmithing attributed to Giorgio Ghisi (16th century), rendered here in exceptional high-relief with an antiqued silver finish. The deeply sculpted field is densely populated with mythological figures, putti, grotesques, and foliate scrollwork arranged in concentric registers around a central oval medallion depicting mounted warriors in combat. Flanking the central scene are full-length classical figures — male and female — standing within oval cartouches amid intertwined strapwork and foliage, while a winged victory figure occupies the lower register. At the summit, a reclining female figure rests above a grotesque mask, and the entire composition is enclosed by a narrow beaded border imitating the original shield's rim, creating a tour de force of sculptural numismatic art. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
The Ghisi were a Venetian noble family who held the Duchy of the Archipelago's northern Aegean islands as a fief from the early 13th century, carving out a private maritime domain in the aftermath of the Fourth Crusade's dismemberment of the Byzantine Empire. Their heraldic shield survived centuries of obscurity before entering the modern collector market through exactly this kind of licensed bullion program — Niue's long-running arrangement with the New Zealand government allows it to issue legal tender struck by private minting houses, a fiscal quirk that has nothing to do with the island's 1,600 residents.
