Palau has issued commemorative silver dollars under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, producing themed series for foreign collectors rather than domestic circulation — this piece never saw a cash register in Ngerulmud. Prambanan is the ninth-century Hindu temple compound in central Java, built during the Sanjaya dynasty and dedicated primarily to the Trimurti; it was damaged by a 2006 earthquake that collapsed several of its smaller shrines and required ongoing UNESCO-assisted restoration work still incomplete by the time this coin was struck.
