Additional information

Broad Peak, the twelfth-highest mountain on earth at 8,051 meters, was first summited in 1957 by an Austrian team — Fritz Wintersteller, Marcus Schmuck, Kurt Diemberger, and Hermann Buhl — notable for being one of the first eight-thousander ascents completed without supplemental oxygen. Palau has issued a consistent run of mountaineering-themed silver pieces throughout the 2010s, this being among the more geographically specific entries in that series.
