Reverse description A naturalistic beaver, the national symbol of Canada, is depicted in profile seated on a log in the central field, a design derived from the classic 1937 series by G.E. Kruger Gray. The legend CANADA arcs below the central device, while the denomination 5 CENTS appears above. Stylized maple leaves flank the design on either side, and the engraver's initials KG appear in the lower field, attributing the design to Kruger Gray.

Additional information

Issued to mark fifty years of Elizabeth II's reign, this piece belongs to a coordinated RCM program that saw multiple denominations struck in sterling silver with a special effigy — Dora de Pédery-Hunt's portrait replaced by a crowned jubilee likeness approved specifically for 2002–2003 commemorative issues. The five-cent denomination is the smallest and least flashy of the set, which likely explains why it turns up less frequently in complete collections than its face value would suggest.
