| 裏面の説明 | The numeral '5' above the legend CENTIMOS is displayed prominently in the centre of the field, enclosed within a wreath of laurel and olive branches tied at the base with a ribbon bow. A small five-pointed star appears at the foot of the wreath. The circumferential legend AMERICA CENTRAL runs along the upper arc, flanked by five-pointed stars at either side, while the fineness mark 900 M and the issuer's initials G.C.R. (Gobierno de Costa Rica) appear in the lower arc, separated by additional stars. The whole is framed within a beaded border. |

Costa Rica's small silver fractional coinage of this period was struck under contract at the Heaton Mint in Birmingham, a common arrangement for Central American republics that lacked domestic minting infrastructure. The 1905–1914 span covers a period of relative monetary stability under the gold standard framework Costa Rica had adopted in 1896, though the silver fractionals continued circulating as subsidiary coinage well below the gold threshold.
Heaton-struck pieces carry no explicit mint mark on this type.
