| Opmerkingen |
Montoire-sur-le-Loir held a significant camp for captured officers during the First World War, and like many French internment facilities, it developed its own internal scrip to manage canteen transactions when official small change was unavailable. The 5 centimes denomination points to a genuine low-value exchange need — these weren't tokens of prestige but functional instruments for daily purchases within the wire.
Officer POW camps operated under different conditions than enlisted facilities, and the men held there often had both the time and education to administer reasonably sophisticated internal economies. Whether this note was lithographed locally or produced within the camp itself is not established with certainty.
