French prisoner-of-war camp scrip, issued by a specific compagnie unit during World War One. These denominations circulated internally among French POWs held under German administration, substituting for Reichsmark currency that camp authorities would not permit prisoners to handle freely. The 62e Compagnie designation identifies the issuing prisoner group rather than a geographic camp — French POWs were organized into labor and administrative companies, each managing its own internal exchange.
Beige paper stock varied considerably across issues, and printing was typically rudimentary, done under constrained conditions with whatever materials were available.
