| Beschrijving keerzijde | A colorfully enameled depiction of a giraffe, identified as the celebrated tribute animal presented to the Yongle Emperor of the Ming Dynasty in the thirteenth year of his reign, originally gifted by the Sultan of Bengal having been brought from the Somali Ajuran Empire. The giraffe is rendered in naturalistic polychrome color against a stylized background, occupying the majority of the octagonal reverse field. The Chinese characters 鄭和 (Zheng He) appear prominently in the field, with the date 2005 and the legend AFRICAN TRIBUTE TO THE MING DYNASTY completing the inscription around the design. |
