| Beschrijving voorzijde | Frontal facing bust of Emperor Tiberius III, crowned and cuirassed, wearing a crown surmounted by a cross. The emperor holds a spear over his right shoulder and supports a decorated shield at his left side. A star appears in the left field. The bust is rendered in the stylized late Byzantine manner typical of Syracusan provincial issues, with flat, schematic facial features characteristic of the period. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | Large denomination numeral M (40 nummi) dominates the center of the flan in bold relief. An upright palm branch flanks the M to the left and a second upright palm branch flanks it to the right, a characteristic decorative device of the Syracusan mint. A cross-shaped monogram appears above the M in the upper field. The design follows the standard Byzantine follis reverse layout adapted for the Syracuse mint under Tiberius III. |
