Obverse description Facing bust of Emperor Mauricius Tiberius in full military attire, wearing a crowned helmet adorned with pendilia, and holding a globus cruciger in the right hand and a shield decorated with a horseman motif in the left. The emperor is depicted frontally in the hieratic Byzantine imperial style, with a cuirass and paludamentum visible. A cross or vertical staff may appear to one side of the bust. The surrounding legend reads D N MAVRIC TIb PP AVG, identifying the emperor by his full titulature.
