| Beschrijving voorzijde | Right-facing bust of Emperor Justinian I, diademed, draped, and cuirassed, rendered in the late antique imperial tradition. The diadem is adorned with pendilia falling beside the neck, and the cuirass is visible at the shoulder. The effigy is depicted with stylized facial features characteristic of sixth-century Byzantine coinage struck at Rome. The obverse legend encircles the bust in Latin, identifying the emperor by his full imperial titulature. |

The entire design is enclosed within a laurel wreath, a distinctive feature of the Roman mint issues under Justinian I. The exergual inscription ROMA identifies the mint city, placing this issue among the Byzantine reconquest coinage struck at Rome following the recovery of Italy from the Ostrogoths. |
