Reverse description Large denomination mark M (signifying 40 nummi) prominently centered on the reverse, flanked by the Latin inscription ANNO and the regnal year numeral. A cross or Christogram (⳨) appears above the M. The officina letter is placed beneath the M, and the mint abbreviation (NIKM, NIKO, +NIKO, or NIK) occupies the exergue. The design follows the standard reformed follis format introduced by Anastasius I and continued under Justinian I.
