Antioch's mint — operating under the Greek name Theopolis, "City of God," a designation imposed by Justinian himself following the catastrophic earthquake of 526 that killed perhaps 250,000 people — stamps this follis with that theophoric legend as both civic rebranding and imperial piety made physical. The city had barely been rebuilt when it was sacked by the Sassanid Persians under Khosrow I in 540, effectively ending this mint's output in its Antiochene form.

The star flanking the M is specific to Antioch and distinguishes this emission from Constantinople production of the same period.
