正面描述 Frontal bust of Constantine IV, helmeted and wearing imperial loros, depicted in a rigid, hieratic Byzantine style typical of the late 7th century. The emperor holds a globus cruciger in his right hand and a spear or sceptre over his left shoulder. The portrait is heavily stylised with broad shoulders and a flat, forward-facing gaze. The overall design is characteristic of Constantinopolitan military imperial iconography. The flan is small and irregular, with much of the surrounding field worn smooth.

附加信息

Constantine IV's reign saw the first successful defense of Constantinople against Arab siege — a seven-year blockade finally broken in 678 using Greek fire deployed from Byzantine dromons. The fiscal strain of that prolonged siege is almost certainly reflected in the debased, underweight folles of this period, including this piece, which runs well below the traditional 40-nummi standard in both module and weight.

BCV 1176 is among the more carelessly produced Constantinople issues of the seventh century, struck on irregular flans with frequent misalignment.
