| Obverse description | Draped bust of King Carl XIV Johan facing right, rendered in high relief with elaborately curled hair, occupying the central field. The king's portrait is uncrowned and shows a classical neoclassical style characteristic of early nineteenth-century Scandinavian coinage. A circular legend surrounds the effigy, reading CARL XIV JOHAN NORGES SVER·G·OG V·KONGE, identifying the monarch as King of Norway, Sweden, the Goths and Wends. The legend is set close to the rim with no inner border visible. |
