The przetaki denomination is specific to a wave of Polish local government commemorative and promotional issues that emerged after administrative reforms restructured the country's powiat system in 1999. Biłgoraj district, in southeastern Lublin voivodeship, used these pieces partly as regional identity markers — the powiat tier of government had been abolished under communism and its restoration created genuine appetite for local civic symbolism. These brass issues circulated informally at regional events and markets rather than as legal tender.
