Christian VI rarely visited Norway and governed it almost entirely through appointed officials, but his coinage was nonetheless struck at the Kongsberg mint, which had operated continuously since 1686 on silver drawn directly from the Numedal mines. The 1736 date places this piece mid-reign, after the king's pietist court reforms had reshaped Danish-Norwegian cultural life without meaningfully touching the mechanics of silver production.
The .672 fineness is notably debased relative to earlier Norwegian mark coinage — a deliberate policy adjustment reflecting broader fiscal pressures on the dual monarchy during the 1730s.
