Issued under the FAO's "Food for All" campaign, this piece was part of a coordinated push by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization that prompted dozens of countries — many of them newly independent or still under British administration — to release commemorative coinage throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s. Saint Vincent was still a British Associated State at the time, having gained that status in 1969, with full independence not coming until 1979.
The FAO program essentially subsidized these issues, making them as much an exercise in international development optics as in numismatic production.
