| Obverse description | Draped bust of Liberty facing left with flowing hair, wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY. The metrology legend encircling the upper rim reads 6G .3S .7C 7GRAMS, denoting the alloy composition of the proposed coinage standard, interspersed with five-pointed stars. The date 1880 appears at the lower rim. The overall design is executed in the flowing-hair Stella style attributed to engraver Charles Edward Barber. |
