The Bank of Central African States issues numismatic collector pieces under a licensing arrangement that has nothing to do with the monetary needs of its six member nations — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and Republic of Congo. This coin is one of dozens of such issues produced annually for the European collector market, struck by contracted mints and rarely, if ever, seen within the issuing territory. The face value is nominal; no one is spending 3000 CFA francs on a 93-gram silver disc.
