The Dance-House Method — a folk music revival pedagogy centered on authentic Carpathian Basin dance traditions — was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2011, the first Hungarian entry on that list. This coin followed two years later as part of Hungary's ongoing commemorative program documenting UNESCO-recognized national culture. The movement itself originated in Budapest in 1972, when ethnomusicologists and folk dancers began organizing táncház events to transmit rural Hungarian musical traditions that had been suppressed or simply left to decay under decades of socialist cultural policy.
