(Translation: Republic of Costa Rica · Central Bank of Costa Rica · Three-Hundred Colones 1981 · Fineness 0.925)
Reverse description The full-length figure of Juan Santamaría, Costa Rica's national hero, is depicted in the center of the field, rendered in high relief after the famous statue in Alajuela. He is shown striding forward dynamically, his right arm raised aloft bearing a flaming torch, and his left hand holding a rifle with a flag or pole. The commemorative legend '125 ANIVERSARIO' arcs along the upper field, with the dates '1856' and '1981' flanking the figure at mid-field. The name 'JUAN SANTAMARIA' curves along the lower field, all within a raised beaded border.
