| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse reproduces a detailed adaptation of El Greco's celebrated canvas 'The Knight with His Hand on His Breast' (c. 1580), housed in the Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid. The composition depicts the nobleman in three-quarter view, his right hand placed upon his chest in a gesture of fidelity, rendered in the elongated, dramatic style characteristic of Domenicos Theotocopoulos. A rectangular panel integrated into the right side of the design incorporates a quadruple latent image technology, simultaneously revealing a paintbrush, the date 1614 (commemorating the fourth centenary of El Greco's death), a brushstroke, and the date 2014. Issued as part of Spain's ongoing commemorative program honoring figures central to its cultural history, this piece marks the 400th anniversary of El Greco's death in Toledo in 1614. Born Domenikos Theotokopoulos in Crete, he spent the dominant years of his career in Toledo after failing to secure patronage at Philip II's Escorial — a rejection that, ironically, kept him rooted in the city most associated with his name.
The €30 face value denomination was introduced by the Royal Mint specifically for silver commemoratives targeting the collector market, sitting above the €20 issues but below the heavier prestige pieces.
