Reverse description Three macaque monkeys rendered in high relief against a granulated background, each embodying one of the classical 'Three Wise Monkeys' adages: the upper monkey covers its eyes ('see no evil'), the left monkey covers its ears ('hear no evil'), and the right monkey covers its mouth ('speak no evil'). A polished square inset, recessed at the center of the composition, serves as a focal contrast element. The corresponding Chinese characters 見 (upper left), 言 (upper right), and 聞 (lower center) are placed at the cardinal positions around the trio, rendered in a seal-script style. The overall design draws on East Asian iconographic tradition and is executed with fine sculptural detail befitting the one-kilogram format.
