Obverse description Central field occupied by the crowned Swedish royal arms, a quartered shield displaying three crowns in the upper quarters and a lion passant in the lower left quarter, surmounted by an ornate royal crown. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle, with the peripheral Latin legend CHRISTINA · D · G · R · S running around the circumference, identifying Queen Christina of Sweden by name and royal title. The die work is characteristic of mid-seventeenth-century hammered coinage, with bold but somewhat irregular relief consistent with hand-struck production at the Riga Mint.
