The two-digit date numerals (e.g. 47 for 1647) appear at the top of the field, divided by the central motif, with the denomination numeral 24 inscribed within the lower portion of the inner circle and the numeral 3 placed at the bottom of the field indicating the 3 Polker value. Riga's municipal coinage of the 1640s was produced under the Swedish crown's administrative framework following the city's incorporation into Swedish Livonia after 1621, yet the city retained the right to strike coins in its own name — a commercial concession tied directly to Riga's importance as the principal Baltic grain port. The polker denomination itself was a regional accounting unit with little circulation outside the eastern Baltic trade zone.
The five-year date span on this type reflects sequential die usage rather than a single issue decision, a common practice at the Riga mint during this period.
