正面描述 Square klippe flan with a central circular design featuring the draped and armored bust of Emperor Leopold I facing right, wearing a long flowing wig in the late Baroque style. A beaded inner circle frames the effigy, while the Latin legend encircles the portrait within the roundel. The four corners of the klippe each bear a single letter — I, F, V, K — positioned at the cardinal points of the square, referencing the mint and denomination. The portrait is rendered with fine detail characteristic of late 17th-century Habsburg coinage.

附加信息

Leopold I struck multiple-ducat pieces in 1701 as presentation and gift coins rather than for ordinary commerce — they functioned as diplomatic currency, handed to envoys, generals, and court favorites. By this point in his reign, Leopold had survived the siege of Vienna by the Ottomans in 1683 and was now maneuvering through the opening moves of the War of the Spanish Succession, which began that same year.

Vienna examples from this period are distinguished from Kremnitz and Breslau output by subtle differences in die workmanship. The 1701 date places this piece at the precise moment Habsburg attention — and treasury resources — shifted westward toward the contest over the Spanish throne.
